At Moon Tide Farm wehave always practice regenerative agriculture. This means we utilize animals, plants, and periods of rest to build & enliven soil structures, supporting the land so it's in better shape than when we began. Our livestock are raised and rotationally fed on pastures, we use heritage and heirloom open-pollinated varieties of fruits and vegetable seeds whenever possible, and we select animals and crops for hardiness and and adaptability to our farm's conditions - it's a unique place to farm right on the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. We continue to save seed when possible, hoping to acclimatize our plants and protect genetic diversity. We've even grown seeds for a local seed company in our efforts to promote regional seed diversity and security!
LIVESTOCK
SHEEP & LAMB
We have a small herd of Shetland sheep raised for fibre, breeding stock, and meat.
For almost a decade, we have raised Shetland sheep but in 2025 we became a registered breeding farm with the North American Shetland Sheep Association (NASSA). Becoming a registered Shetland sheep breeder is important to us to both signal our commitment to this tiny, hardy sheep breed and to also indicate our diligence in selecting for high wool quality, easy temperaments, and general health hardiness.
The sheep love the cooler temps here along the Bay of Fundy and are managed through a regenerative, rotational grazing system on native pastures which only improve for their munching and crunching.
Sheep not selected as replacement stock for our own flock are either sold as breeding stock to other farms or culled for meat.
Consequently, we have a limited quantity of lamb available.
Please CONTACT US if you'd like to be on the wait list for lamb.
EGGS
Grace & Connor own a small flock of free-range laying hens who provide our family & yours with FARM FRESH EGGS. They are fed a locally-produced grain ration, range outside at will, and are never medicated.
The the kids do the chores (with support as needed) - it's THEIR farm enterprise!
Eggs are for sale by chance in our FARM STAND or by WEEKLY BIKE DELIVERY in the community.
Please CONTACT US if you'd like to be on the community delivery list.
ANIMALS WE LOVE BUT ARE NO LONGER RAISING FOR SALE...
Grass-Fed BEEF
We grew a herd of grass-fed cattle in partnership with another farm in our community for about 5 years. As pastures and the land improved through our rotational grazing practices, we moved to toward a completely grass-fed herd. With production costs increasing faster than revenue, this venture ultimately proved unsustainable.
Although we were sad to shift gears (we really loved the cattle), we try to embody farm sustainability in all forms so if it doesn't work for the triple bottom line (people, planet & profits), we switch things up.
Pastured PORK
Heritage breed pigs have been raised on the farm in the pasture. The pigs were happy to have a job (clearing some land), lots of sunshine, mud and relative freedom to do their piggy-thing. They did their job for several years, fed us & our community of supporters and we're so grateful. They may come back as the kids get older and want to take on more farm responsibilities... stay tuned!
Free Range CHICKEN
We have also been licensed free range chicken producers over the years and have grown chicken for our own family and our customers (an a restaurant or two, too!). All chickens were raised on pasture, processed in government-inspected facilities and available whole, havled, or as individual pieces. For the time being, we now only raise free range chicken for our own family's freezer.
Grass-Fed CHEVON
We had few dairy goats on the farm over the years, especially when the children were small and Ann made a variety of soft cheeses, yogourt & kefir and occasionally we had chevon for sale. The dairy goats we rehomed to another dairy goat farm in Nova Scotia several years ago. We loved the goats, they literally fed our babes, but we've moved on.
